The Sports Yapp History:
Growing up in a household with two athletic brothers and a Dad who played high school and college sports, Bryce developed an interest in sports at a very young age. Although he eagerly tried them all...baseball, soccer, swimming, football, and basketball...Bryce ultimately realized he was better off talking about them!

During the summer of 2004, before Bryce’s senior year of high school, he went to a Young Life Camp in the Colorado Rocky Mountains where he first envisioned becoming a sports talk radio show host. Following high school graduation, he decided to act on his dream by pursuing an Electronic Media and Broadcasting degree at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. From 2005 to 2009, Bryce took broadcasting classes, became the sports director for the campus radio station (WASU), created the college version of “SPORTS YAPP,” and co-hosted “The Sports Page” on WXIT in Boone. As a result, these amazing ASU radio experiences positively confirmed Bryce's Rocky Mountain calling from God!
In February 2009, after spending months praying and wrestling with whether to follow his heart or take a more "traditional path," Bryce decided to seize the moment and never look back. He took the challenge of his supporters by stepping out in faith and pursuing this exciting venture. To test the waters a bit, Bryce began telling people outside of his circle of family and friends about his strategy. When he mostly received encouraging feedback, Bryce wholeheartedly plunged in - determined to take SPORTS YAPP® from the college ranks to the pros! Surrounded by people who not only affirmed what he was doing, but also those with expertise to help him develop both the radio show and YAPP Productions, LLC, Bryce confidently moved forward. In May 2009, upon graduating from APP State, Bryce diligently worked on creating and marketing a business plan that would attract investors for the financial backing needed, and putting together a SPORTS YAPP team that enthusiastically caught his vision. Although the summer took him down a few paths that proved unsuccessful, Bryce's frustrations and disappointments eventually led to the big break he was hoping for - having a sports talk radio show in Charlotte! Through an ASU contact (the cost of tuition paid back tenfold) Bryce met with the station manager of WAVO (1150) and WTIX (1410), Tom Gentry, to share his innovative ideas for SPORTS YAPP. Using the negotiation skills of Craig Mundy with Mundy Communications (another ASU contact), Tom ultimately agreed to give Bryce a shot at being a professional sports talk radio show host. Knowing the show was going to launch in a few months, the SPORTS YAPP team eagerly got to work: Mike Coulter (a fellow radio host and assistant sports director from ASU), Darla Johnson (Bryce's Mom and former paralegal with a journalism degree), and Duncan Mellott (high school friend, “Yapper of the Semester” during Bryce’s ASU SPORTS YAPP show, and a recent business graduate from UNC Wilmington). On February 8, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., SPORTS YAPP hit the airwaves in Charlotte and the surrounding area for the first time. With instant listeners, entertaining segments, and interesting interviews archiving on its podcasts, the show quickly moved to drive time and presently airs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Always looking to gain more dedicated listeners and supportive sponsors, SPORTS YAPP is still a work in progress. Even so, Bryce and the SPORTS YAPP team are proud of their history to date and want to continue showing how hard work, determination, passion, and a strong faith can make anyone's dream a reality!
